ABOUT foto_edited_edited_edited.png

Leen Bogaerts lives and works in Antwerp, where she graduated in 2010 and received her master’s degree in Costume Design (KASK). Later on, she followed an evening course in Sculpture. During her graduation, she was nominated for several awards.

Leen has taught workshops and has worked as a museum guide for the Middelheim Museum, MoMu, and the Fashion Museum in Hasselt. She has been combining her passion for art and talent development since 2016 as a teacher at ‘Dé Kunsthumaniora’ in Antwerp, her own former secondary school.

After graduating, Leen focused on costume and set design for circus performances, advertising, theatre, and film. The bigger and more out of the box the assignment, the more enthusiastically Leen embraced the challenge. Among her creations are a towering polyester egg for the short film Songs from the Outside (2013), a lifelike panda for a commercial stunt (2015), and a large heart sculpture on legs (2013).

Leen loves to build her own universe, populated by her imaginative characters, as seen in her performances Walk the Line I & II (Master project and Middelheim project, 2010), Fleishmann (Scheld’apen, 2011), Surprise Bazaar I (Design Gallery Michael Marcy, 2012), and Surprise Bazaar II (Antwerp Fringe Festival, 2014).

Since 2024, Leen has been focusing on independent work: abstract, colourful, and layered collages often created in collaboration with artist Eva Corluy. Her collages form fictional, intuitive spaces in which she experiments with composition, colour, and texture. She first presented her work during ‘HUISWERK’ at Dé Kunsthumaniora in Antwerp (2025), followed by the exhibition ‘Kleurrijk Verdwaald’ at CC Merelbeke (2025–2026).
